Faultlines Vol-33
Description:
An age of anxiety is again upon us, but it is a peculiar age. While war and strife are still with us, they have demonstrated dramatically declining trends after a peak in 2014-15. Terrorism, the great scourge of the early 21st Century, is losing momentum in most theatres.
The relatively encouraging trends in global armed violence can give little solace within a broad environment of compounding crises. Each of the papers in this volume explores components of the paradox of the decline in extremist violence and the persistence of the extremist potential, within elements of this global complex of crises. Terrorist and extremist formations have certainly suffered dramatic reverses over the past decades, but the grievances, the distresses that they harnessed in the moment of their greatest ascendency, remain intact and have, indeed, often augmented.
